|A fragmentation that results from one of the pair of electrons between the atom attached to the atom with the odd electron and an adjacent atom that pairs with the odd electron. After fragmentation, the atom that contains the charge when the ion is formed retains the charge. A radical is lost as a result of the fragmentation. This fragmentation is homolysis because it involves the movement of a single electron. See also [[homolysis]].
