DRAFT DEFINITION
Progeny Fragment Ions

Includes product ions, 1st generation product ions, 2nd generation product ions, etc. It is a more generic term than product ion. Given the sequential fragmentation scheme:

M1+ ?????????????????????????? M2+ → M3+ ?????????????????????????? M4+  ?????????????????????????? M5+

e.g. M4+ is the precursor ion of M5+, a 1st generation product ion of M3+, a 2nd generation product ion of M2+ and a 3rd generation product ion of M1+

Considered between 2004 and 2006 but not included in the 2006 PAC submission
This is an unofficial draft definition presented for information and comment.
