This term is used to describe the [[electrospray]] interface which achieves a reduction in the sample flow rates (less than 1 μL/min). The reduced flow rate is due to a narrower inner diameter of the needle tip (usually less than 50 μm) and is maintained mechanically. See also [[electrospray ionization]] and [[nanoelectrospray]].
