{{Rev5|
A process in which ionized species in the gas phase are produced from a solution via formation and desolvation of highly charged fine droplets that result from applying a several thousand volt potential difference between a narrow-bore needle tip and a counter electrode, at atmospheric pressure.
Note: When a pressurized gas is used to aid in the formation of a stable spray, the term pneumatically-assisted electrospray ionization is used. The term ionspray is deprecated unless describing the trademarked product.
