Electron capture dissociation (ECD) |
---|
Process in which multiply protonated molecules interact with low-energy electrons followed by fragmentation. The capture of an electron by the even-electron cation [M + nH]n+ liberates energy and reduces its charge state, thus producing the corresponding [M + nH](n1)+ odd-electron ion, which readily fragments. |
