Infrared multiphoton dissociation
From Mass Spec Terms
DRAFT DEFINITION
Infrared multiphoton dissociation
---
A multiphoton process wherein the reactant ion is dissociated as a result of cumulative excitation of the reactant ion that absorbs a number of infrared photons in a short time. This term is particularly associated with Fourier transform ion cyclotron resonance (FT-ICR) mass spectrometry in which an ultrahigh vacuum inside the ICR (Penning) ion trap is free from collisional relaxation of the reactant ion's internal energy.
Considered between 2004 and 2006 but not included in the 2006 PAC submission
