Matrix effects
In quantitative analysis, especially with atmospheric pressure ionization techniques, matrix components co-extracted and co-eluting with the analytes can alter the ionization efficiency resulting in poor analytical accuracy, linearity, and reproducibility. These effects can be either ionization suppression or ionization enhancement.
