[ASMS Terms and Definitions Poster] definition - Thermal ionization - Method used to ionize solid samples on a hot surface of a metal filament.

Some salts or other solids (beta-eucriptites ?...) give ions at elevated T, usually positive metal ions. Suggested modification: Ion emission from a hot surface. Samples may be deposited on a metal filament. "Thermoionization" is also used. I don't know if there is a difference.

I agree with Jean-Fran?***?*?**??****?*??***?*?**?**?*??ois GAL [re above], Thermal Ionization these days also increasingly uses Silica Gel and other oxides as the emitting agent. Use of the term "Metal" should be avoided in the definition. Suggested modification: "Ion emission from a hot surface".
