Infrared multiphoton dissociation
From Mass Spec Terms
| DRAFT DEFINITION |
| Infrared multiphoton dissociation |
|---|
|
A multiphoton process wherein the reactant ion is dissociated as a result of cumulative excitation of the reactant ion that absorbs a number of infrared photons in a short time. This term is particularly associated with 'Fourier transform ion cyclotron resonance (FT-ICR) mass spectrometry' in which an ultrahigh vacuum inside the ICR (Penning) ion trap is free from collisional relaxation of the reactant ion's internal energy. |
| Considered between 2004 and 2006 but not included in the 2006 PAC submission |
