| DRAFT DEFINITION |
| Multiphoton ionization |
|---|
|
It occurs when an atom or a molecule and their concomitant ions have energy states whereby the energy in two or more photons is absorbed. The term resonance-enhanced multiphoton ionization refers a process by means of which the ionization cross section is significantly enhanced when the wavelength of the incident photons is tuned to an intermediate excited state of the neutral species. |
