relative detection limit detection limit Smallest amount of material detectable in a matrix relative to the amount of material analyzed, given in atomic, mole, or weight fractions. Note 1: The meaning of "detectable" must be specified, for example, three times the standard deviation of the measurement (3σ criterion). Note 2: Often incorrectly referred to as sensitivity.
