Mass spectrometer in which m/z separation is achieved using crossed electric and magnetic fields. Note: It can also be operated as a charged particle energy analyzer or monochromator.

Velocity selector in a mass spectrometer. The electric force is equal and opposite to the magnetic force only in the case where $v=\frac{E}{B}$. Particles moving at all other velocities do not travel along a straight path.
